Mostafa has started his academic career in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell University. Check out Hassani Reseacrh Group website here.

Mostafa Hassani joined the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell University in 2018. He received his PhD degree (cum laude) in Mechanical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano. Following his graduate studies, he completed a postdoctoral appointment in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT. Mostafa’s academic training in Mechanical Engineering focused on solid mechanics and structural materials.

Mostafa uses experiments, analytical theory, and computer simulations to understand the structure-property relation in structural materials, with particular emphasis on the extreme conditions of plastic strain, deformation rate, pressure, temperature, and energetic particle/photon fluxes. He also exploits such extreme conditions for advanced processing of materials and solid-state additive manufacturing. His current research focuses are solid-state additive manufacturing, mechanics of impact and indentation, synchrotron x-rays and in-situ studies of deformation and failures, surface engineering, and coatings. Mostafa has more than 30 publications in reputable interdisciplinary journals including Nature Communications, Physical Review Letters, and Acta Materialia. He has received a number of honors including the Roberto Rocca Postdoctoral Fellowship and Acta Materialia outstanding reviewer award.
